How to pronounce the letter D in Spanish? (With IPA and exercises…)


Today we are going to learn ‘the pronunciation for the letter ‘D’ in Spanish’ and for that purpose we are going to use a little bit of IPA.

The most important thing to learn is 2 slightly different sounds can be used depending on their location inside a word.

The first one is used when it is at the beginning like in: dar, dedo, dicho, dolor
and the second sound is used when it is in the middle, like in: nada, nadie, todo.

These 2 sounds that are not normally distinguished are called allophones and the first sound could be used for all cases.
