Today we are going to learn the pronunciation for the letter Y in Argentinian Spanish and for that purpose we are going to use a little bit of IPA.
The letter Y has 2 very different pronunciations:
The first one is the sound ‘i’ with is exactly the same as the spanish AI and it is used when it is by itself or at the end of a syllable or word.
Some examples are: y, soy, hay, estoy, muy
The second one is the sound ‘sh’ /ʃ/ and it is used at the beginning of a syllable, like in yo, ya, haya, yacimiento.
Please pay attention to this pronunciations as it changes in different regions and it is the same sound as the double ‘ll’.
